6.EMERGENCIES/FIRE
The fire department is responsible for fire fighting i.e (house fires and veldt fires within its area of operation) and responding to other emergencies like road traffic accidents to save lives.
How do I obtain the service?
The community must report all emergencies through an emergency line No: 998 or direct line No: 6213830/40, 24hrs per day and 7days per week. If you can’t go through these numbers, call the police at 999 so that they could convey the message to the fire brigade. Cost of obtaining the service

PUBLIC EDUCATION
Fire department is responsible for all fire Prevention and Public education in the Town. Its duty is to inspect all business premises and Institutions and government offices. The purpose of the inspection is to ensure that the premises are provided with fire fighting facilities and that they adhere to laid safety procedures for the safety of occupants and employees.
Cost of obtaining these services.
Fire prevention on Business Premises, Institutions and Government offices as well as public education are provided free of charge.

FIRE INSPECTIONS
Inspections required for a trading licence (Acquisition or Renewal)
All businesses are required to have a fire inspection report when they apply for acquisition or renewal of a trading licence. The report indicates to the licensing authority that the applicant has provided all the needed fire fighting facilities to safe guard the premises. The fire department has its own schedule of inspections and it is done monthly and when there is a request.

PLAN PERUSAL
Fire is a member of a Building Control Council Committee that is responsible for perusal of plans before they could be passed for implementation. In the committee, fire is responsible for advising on matters of safety and provision of fire fighting facilities.
